The ensemble Aquila Altera was founded in 1997 at L'Aquila, with the aim of disseminating knowledge of Ancient Music from the Middle Age up to the Renaissance. Building on the extensive experience and background of the performers, Aquila Altera aims to spread and promote knowledge, of Ancient Music and to conduct musical research, to create historically correct performances. To achieve this, the group uses reproduction instruments of the era exclusively.

Moreover Aquila Altera pay attention to consider and execute the large sacred and secular, vocal and instrumental production collected in medieval and of the renaissance codes written by composers from the Italian district of Abruzzo.

Among the events realized in such sense they are to notice in 2002 the incision of the CD “Menando gli anni – Medioeval Music in Abruzzo between medioevon and renaissance, with the association “Le Cantrici di Euterpe”; in 2004 the production of the concert  "O Maria quanto scy bella – laudi del popolo aquilano", and in 2007 the first absolute execution of the "Codice di Rocca di Mezzo" performed for the concert season of the  " Officina Musicale delle Rocche G. Scotese", and engraved with the collaboration with the District of “Rocca di Mezzo” (AQ) and the Ministry of Cultural Heritage – Discoteca di Stato.

L 'ensemble is sufficiently trained musicians from 5 until you reach a wider number of artists according to the needs of the programs.

Aquila Altera has participated in festivals, concert series, recordings, television recordings, in Italy and abroad, among the most significant include: Radio 3 concert broadcast -   concert transmitted life on Radio Rai; the XX edition of the festival del Canton Ticino "Cantar di Pietre"- concert which was broadcasted live on Italian Switzerland Radio; and also the festival of the Antegnati (Bellinzona), XXV Festival Cusiano di Musica Antica - Amici della musica di Novara; XIX Settimana Internazionale di Musica Medievale e Rinascimentale di Erice; il Canto delle Pietre - Lombardia Europa Musica; II Festival Internazionale D’Umbria Antica Musica; Giornate Gesualdiane Internazionali  X ed., Festival "Alia Musica", Stagione concertistica "Estri d'Estate" - Parma; VII Festival del Teatro Medievale e Rinascimentale di Anagni; "Musica a Corte" - Reggio Emilia; "Dalle Palme a San Luca 2002" - Bologna; VI Festival di Musica Antica Sacra "Tibi silentium laus" - Amici della Musica Fabriano (AN);  Stagione Concertistica “Palestrina e l’Europa “ Fondazione G. Barattelli” – L’Aquila; “I concerti dell’orto botanico” Associazione Musicale Romana – Roma; Festival “Le Corti dell’Arte” Cava dei Tirreni (SA); Fondazione “Franceschini”.

In 2008 the group was honored to begin the demonstrations of the 714 “Perdonanza Celestiniana” holding a concert to an audience of over 3,000 people.

Aquila Altera has collaborated on musicological conferences for several Italian universities and institutions:

Concert and conference "Restoration and enhancement of the sound: the musical code of Rocca di Mezzo" - European University Centre for Cultural Heritage - Library Casanatense. The concert was held in the presence of President A. Ciampi and Cardinal A. Sodano.
